my Half Marathon training, that is. I have registerd for the Goddess Half Mararathon on June 1st. There are other Reel Lifers who are doing it too. Others are just going to come out and run, improving their running and completing 5 and 10 km races this year. I was going to use an image of a start and finish line for today's blog, but I was reading a fitness magazine this week and found an advertisement. It was perfect for me, so I cut it out and added to my vision board. This is my life - 3 children, 2 dogs, NO EXCUSES!!!
Truth be told, I am a bit nervous, I have an 8 week old baby, my running is not where it used to be. But you all know, I love to run!!! It puts me in a great mood, I feel unstoppable, once I past that first 10 minutes where the lactic acid in my body is telling me to turn around and head for home. When I hit about 7 km I feel like I could run forever. I know that not all of the runs will be my best, not every run can be. But I am comitted, like the other Reel Lifers.
12 weeks til the big day......I will be posting pictures, sharing running tips, triumphs, and the struggles. Fitting in all of the training in is going to be my biggest challenge. Today was a Fartlek run - 6.4km (adding intervals throughout the run). My day started before 6:30 am, playdates at the park, and I had a personal training session tonight, and didn't get home until 8:00pm. But to be committed means NO EXCUSES. So I hoppoed on the treadmill and did it. It was hard, I was sweating buckets, but I LOVED it!!! A little push here, and a little voice inside my head, "go, Cheryl go", "Dad had no legs in the end, run with yours".
I said I wouldn't run another half marathon after the Kool Half a few years ago. But I feel the bug biting and so I will do it, not to mention it will help with getting back my pre-pregnancy body. I have no intention of running a personal best (1:58:59) for the Goddess in June, just crossing the finish line with my 3 sons and my husband cheering me on.
What I love about races, is the accomplishment, and the training towards a specific goal. I enjoy follpwing the training schedule, and completing the variety of runs - intervals, speed and my favorite - the hill workouts. Oh and I love a weekly long run - slow and steady - it's almost relaxing!!
Have you every entered a race in your community? There are many excellent charities and organizations hosting them year round - 5km, 10km, half and full marathons. Maybe 2014 you can give it a try. You will love the feeling of crossing the finish line. If you are already registered or are planning on it - post it here. WHEN and WHERE? Would love to hear from you!
